NOTE: In saucepan, combine sugar, salt, and cornstarch. Stir in milk. Break chocolate squares into small bits and add to mixture. Heat, stirring constantly, till chocolate melts and mixture thickens. Cook for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat. Beat egg yolks and add to chocolate mixture. Cook and stir for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Chill. You can use this as a pie / dessert filling or you can serve this by itself.
