Pecan Fig Brownies

3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup shortening
3 eggs
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup pecans, chopped
1/3 cup fig preserves or jam
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Glaze:
1 ounce unsweetened chocolate
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 325F. Melt shortening and chocolate over low heat (or in microwave to reduce waste), cool slightly. Blend eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and vanilla. Stir in chocolate mixture. Blend well. Pour into 8 inch square greased baking pan. Bake 40 minutes. Spoon jam over hot brownies and top with pecans

Glaze:
Melt chocolate. Add milk. Blend with remaining glaze ingredients.

Serves 9.
