Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices. Set aside. Cream together shortening and brown sugar until light and fluffy, using electric mixer at medium speed. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in vanilla. Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, mixing well with spoon. Stir in oats, coconut and pecans. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place balls on greased sheets. Bake in 350F oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
Makes about 5 dozen.
