Syrup Cake 3

1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 beaten egg
1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
3/4 tsp ginger
3/4 tsp cinnamon

Pour water over shortening. Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients, beat until smooth. Bake in 8 in. square wax paper fined pan or oiled skillet at 350F for 35 minutes. Cool in pan. Can serve with applesauce and whipped cream or sliced bananas and whipped cream or butter.
