Pineapple Nut Brownies

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp each baking soda and salt
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup butter flavored shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 tbs cane syrup
2 eggs
One 9 oz can crushed pineapple, drained
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Heat oven to 350F. Grease and flour 8x8 inch pan. Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Melt chocolate with shortening, blend in sugar. Add pineapple, eggs, vanilla. Beat 2 minutes with electric mixer. Add dry ingredients beat until well blended. Fold in chopped nuts. Pour into pan. Bake 35 minutes or until top springs back. Cut into 2 inch squares while warm.
