Split Pea Soup

- 9 cups water or chicken broth
- 1 pound dried split peas
- 2 cups smoked ham, diced
- 1 ham bone (optimal)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 medium carrots, diced
- 3 bay leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon basil
- 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
- 3 shakes jalapeno sauce
- 3 shakes Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/8 cup minced garlic
- 1/8-ounce can small peas, drained
- 1 teaspoon sugar
After rinsing and draining split peas in water, bring to boil the first 11 ingredients. Allow to simmer uncovered 45 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer an additional 30 minutes, covered. Stir in sugar and remove bay leaves before serving.
