Steak and Rice

1-1/2 pounds boneless beef round steak, cut in thin strips
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 tbs vegetable oil
1/3 cup dry red wine
1 can (14-1/2 to 16 oz) tomatoes (2 cups)
1/2 cup beef broth
2 medium onions, sliced
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp each basil and thyme
3 cups hot cooked rice
Season steak with garlic, salt, and pepper.

Brown meat in oil. Add remaining ingredients, except rice. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce the heat, and simmer 25 minutes. Remove bay leaf. Serve over beds of fluffy rice.

Makes 6 servings.
